VO2max Testing

Laboratory-grade cardiorespiratory fitness testing to guide training, recovery, and long-term health.

What Is VO2max Testing?

VO2max testing is the gold-standard measurement of cardiorespiratory fitness — how efficiently your body takes in, transports, and uses oxygen during exercise. Using metabolic gas analysis alongside a graded exercise test on a treadmill or bike, we measure your oxygen uptake as intensity increases, right up to your true maximum.

The result is a precise, individual picture of your aerobic capacity — not an estimate from a formula, a wearable, or your age and resting heart rate, but a direct physiological measurement taken under controlled conditions.

Who VO2max Testing Is For?

Performance & Athletic Applications

VO2max testing is a core tool for athletes and coaches looking to train with precision:

Accurate heart rate and power training zones,
based on your own physiology rather than generic percentages of max heart rate
Establishing your anaerobic threshold to structure interval and endurance training correctly

Tracking fitness progress objectively across a training block or season
‍Identifying whether aerobic capacity or economy is the limiting factor in performance

Baseline testing
ahead of marathons, triathlons, cycling events, or team sport pre-season

Health & Longevity Applications

VO2max is increasingly recognised as one of the strongest predictors of long-term health outcomes:

VO2max is a well-established marker of cardiovascular health and longevity, independent of age or activity history

Understanding your current fitness level as a baseline for a health or weight management programme

Monitoring the impact of lifestyle, training, or medical interventions over time

Informing safe, effective exercise prescription, particularly for those returning to activity after a period of inactivity or illness

Whatever your goal, your results come with a clear explanation of what they mean and practical guidance on where to focus your training.

How does a Session Works?

1. Screening — Before your test, we review your training history, goals, and any relevant health considerations to ensure the test is appropriate and safe for you.
2. Preparation — On arrival, you'll be fitted with a lightweight mask connected to our metabolic analyser, along with a heart rate monitor.
3. The Test — You'll complete a graded exercise test on a treadmill or bike, with intensity increasing in stages until you reach your maximum effort.
4. Results & Report — You'll receive a detailed report covering your VO2max, anaerobic threshold, and individualised heart rate/power zones, along with a discussion of what your results mean and how to apply them.

The test typically takes 45–60 minutes in total, including setup, warm-up, and the graded test itself.

Testing is conducted using validated, laboratory-grade metabolic analysis equipment - not a wearable estimate. Results delivered with clear, individualised guidance. Testing is suitable for athletes chasing performance and for anyone wanting an objective picture of their fitness and health.

As with all physiological testing, VO2max testing is carried out following a proper screening to ensure it's appropriate and safe for your individual circumstances.
